Not every home problem needs a new organizing system. Sometimes it needs one basket.
Place a sturdy basket near the door and make it the “leaving the house” basket.
Library books that need returning? Basket. Something that belongs at Grandma's house? Basket. Store return? Basket. Item you promised to bring somebody? Basket.
Instead of moving those things from counter to chair to table and eventually wondering where they went, give them one temporary home.
The important rule is that this isn't another permanent storage spot. When you leave the house, check the basket.
It's a tiny habit, but small systems often work better than complicated ones because families will actually use them.
