The Family Lost & Found Night

Family Lost and Found Night

Every family seems to have a collection of things that belong to absolutely nobody.

One glove. A charger nobody recognizes. A water bottle everyone swears isn't theirs. A sock that has been waiting three weeks for its partner. A mysterious little plastic piece that looks important enough that nobody is willing to throw it away.

Instead of moving those things from counter to counter for another month, make a Family Lost & Found Box.

Once in a while, bring it out and have everybody claim their stuff.

Anything unclaimed gets a decision: keep, donate, relocate or finally admit we have absolutely no idea what it is.

Make it funny. Hold up each mystery object like you're running an auction: “Going once…going twice…does this charger belong to ANYBODY in this house?”

It's a simple way to clear some clutter without turning it into a serious family cleaning project.

And there's something wonderfully real about it. A lived-in family home will always accumulate random stuff because people actually live there. That's okay. We can laugh about it while we clean it up.

Family challenge: Find a basket or box you already own and designate it Family Lost & Found. When something mysterious appears, it finally has somewhere to go.

Reader question: What's the strangest thing currently sitting around your house because nobody will claim it?

FAMILY LOST & FOUND — Claim it or explain it. 😂
